I did Denise Mcnair. Denise was part of the 16th street bombing where two men planted a bomb in the basement of the 16th street church. Denise was currently dressing for a choir performance with four other girls. Denise died with three of her friends, what makes this so sad is the fact that she was so young, only eleven.
Born on November 17th 1951, eleven year old Denise Mcnair is a large contribution to the civil rights movement.Denise is child number one of an African American family of three. Chris and Maxine, Denise's parents attended church every Sunday with Denise. After coming to the same church forever, no one was expecting the tragedy occurring on September 15th, 1962.
One tragic bombing is all we needed to bring attention to the the complete and udder selfishness brought by the disregarding "whites". On September 15th, 1962 Denise Mcnair an her parents were innocently endangered by a purposeful bomb planted in the basement of there local church. During the "Civil Rights Movement" acts of evil were exchanged for years. However this bombing, which involved many including young children, was beyond anyone's expectations.
We may know this tragedy as the "16th street bombing". Although the civil right movement had been going on for multiple years, the 16th street bombing shaped the way for change making it a very well known event in history. The terrorizing took place at the 16th street church on September 15th, 1962. This day is to be remembered for decades to come.
Many events occurring during the Civil Rights Movement were happening in towns we hear, and learn about today! Unfortunately though a lot of these events cause destruction just to make a point, the 16th street bombing was one of these destructive events. On September 15th 1962 two men placed a bomb in the basement of the 16th street church for "blacks". This church became a famous spot were people today visit and learn about the tragedy that effected thousands.
The 16th street church, were Denise and her family had been going for years was sadly destroyed in an act of segregation. The reason for this was to show the power the us "whites" had over our fellow blacks. When the two men that planted the bomb in the building of there church, Denise and her other four friends were getting ready for a choir performance to put on for the church. Just as the young girls were finishing tying there sashes, the bomb went off. The bomb killed four of the little girls and injuring the last girl. These two men also blew a large whole in the top of the church, sadly they were not caught until 2002 were they were both executed.
Although the 16th street bombing was tragic and pointless, the event happened. However, it also created a new side to the Civil Rights movement, showing the world that the "blacks" do have a voice. The bombing truly paved the way for change in The United States Of America, undoing segregation, but not forgetting what it was. The 16th street bombing will be remembered as terror, but also as new beggining. Biography.com
